Riverside Parkway to Completely Open Friday

Riverside Parkway has been a 3 year $110 million journey for the city of Grand Junction and on Friday that journey comes to an end.

Riverside Parkway strectes 7 miles in length from 29 Road to 24 Road. The road project, which was the largest capital improvement project in Grand Junction history, was completed 15 months ahead of schedule which has many local businesses happy.

Heather Burns with Bananas Fun Park says, "Instead of having to go on that Highway 6 & 50 which is such a congested mess, it's going to make things really simple and easy to get here."

Leigh Ashman with the Glacier Ice Arena says, "Riverside Parkway is really going to bring a lot of people right by our front door. 25 Road is really going to help us and its really going to make us part of the city I think in that we're not going to be off the beaten park."

Both the Ice Arena and Bananas Fun Park will have specials all day on Friday.

Friday at 10 a.m. the city of Grand Junction is holding an opening celebration. The celebration will be head on Riverside Parkway at the 5th Street Bridge ending in a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. Event participants are asked to park at the Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens will also be free to the public.

The road will be open to traffic at 2 p.m.
