More than 35 western slope students attend public school over the Internet. Participating parents say the program combines the best of the public school system with the freedom and comfort of a home school environment. Connections Academy operates a full–time public virtual school for students grades K-9 under contract with Denver Public Schools. Angela Drayer says the program is a dream come true for her and her family, and she couldn’t be more pleased with her daughter’s education. Third grader Aidan attends school five days a week for five hours each day. She has a teacher she communicates with regularly over the phone and Internet, and her mother acts as her learning coach. Connections Academy provides its students with a computer, printer, Ink cartridges and all of their text books. Students participate in standardized CSAP testing. Representatives with Colorado Connections Academy will be in Grand Junction and Montrose this week to provide interested parents with more information. The informational sessions will be held Wednesday, May 10th from 10:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. at Western Colorado Community College in Grand Junction, and on Thursday, May 11th from 6:30p.m. to 8:00p.m. in Montrose at the Holiday Inn.
