Suspect Identified In Officer-Involved Shooting

Video will be available shortly.

Police release the identity of a man who was shot to death by law enforcement officers yesterday and have confirmed his connection to a shooting over the weekend. According to the Grand Junction Police Department, 28–year–old Joseph Carroll was shot by undercover officers with the Western Colorado Joint Drug Task Force outside the Orchard Mesa Lanes bowling alley. Joseph Carroll was under surveillance because he was considered the prime suspect in the shooting of his wife 25–year–old Rebecca Jane Carroll on Sunday. According to Grand Junction Police Chief Bill Gardner. When three undercover officers tried to approach him he showed a gun that authorities believe he was prepared to use. Carroll was pronounced dead at St. Mary's Hospital about a half hour later with multiple gunshot wounds. As with any officer involved shooting the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Team has convened and is conducting an investigation. Rebecca Carroll who was shot in the stomach remains in critical condition at a Denver hospital. Police spokesperson Linda Bowman says her breathing tube was removed Wednesday and officials say she is making small progress. Joseph Carroll was one of several people arrested last month for his alleged role in a methamphetamine distribution ring.
