Fruita Celebrates Mike the Headless Chicken

Video will be available shortly.

It was a poultry medical anomaly when Lloyd Olsen chopped the head off of his chicken, and it lived, for nearly a year and a half.

Saturday in Fruita, the Mike the Headless Chicken Festival filled the streets in celebration of that particular bird, and chicken was definitely the theme of the weekend. With chicken wing eating contests, a chicken petting zoo and the chicken dance in Civic center Park and even though the festival surrounds the celebration of a headless chicken, it does good things for the city of Fruita. People come from all over the country for the festival. The Mike the Headless Chicken Festival is an annual event in Fruita that takes place every spring.
