Simpson Trial Lawyers Make Opening Statements
A defense lawyer in the O.J. Simpson robbery and kidnapping trial says the evidence will show that the disgraced NFL star simply wanted to recover stolen personal effects.

Las Vegas (AP) A defense lawyer in the O.J. Simpson robbery and kidnapping trial says the evidence will show that the disgraced NFL star simply wanted to recover stolen personal effects.
Simpson is accused of robbing sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel room. But lawyer Yale Galanter says the evidence will not show that Simpson intended to commit a crime. He says Simpson was trying to retrieve pictures of his deceased parents -- not sports memorabilia.
In his opening statement, prosecutor Chris Owens played an audio recording of the hotel room confrontation and pointed out one voice barking, “don't let nobody outta here.”
Simpson could face life in prison with the possibility of parole if convicted of kidnapping, and mandatory prison time if convicted of armed robbery.
