Transmission problems cause an explosion on a truck equipped with oxygen bottles and a welding machine in Fruita Monday afternoon.
The oxygen tanks exploded on the truck after a small fire from under the hood spread quickly by the high winds. The driver of a Leach Industrial Service truck and his passenger first noticed a big puff of smoke coming from underneath the truck. As they were heading back from Fruita on Highway 6 and 50 they pulled over near the 19 Road intersection. There were no injuries at the scene, and traffic on the Highway 6 and 50 was detoured for an hour.
