Detectives with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office have identified three men responsible for an assault early Saturday morning at a high school graduation party north of Mack that left one man critically injured.
The three men appeared at the party and began fighting with other attendees. Authorities are looking for Gary Ray Keifer, Joseph Abriam Painter and Joseph David Windscheffel. The three assaulted one victim by hitting him in the head with an object and kicking him repeatedly after he fell to the ground. Mesa County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Susan Redmond says the three were not known to the victim and that the attack was so serious the men may be charged with attempted murder. A fourth man is also being sought by authorities. The unknown man was known by the victim, and unlike the others was a guest at the party.
The victim was met by Sheriff's Deputies as he was being taken to Fruita by private car. He was taken to St. Marys Hospital where he remains under care.
Authorities ask that if you have any information on these men you should contact Sheriff's Investigator Steve King at 244–3500, or Crimestoppers at 241–7867.
