Travelers heading to Gunnison and points east from Montrose will find road work slowing their trips this summer. Delays of about ten minutes should be expected as a major resurfacing project begins May 30th on six miles of Highway 50.
Last fall the Colorado Department of Transportation began replacing culverts, building retaining walls and doing other work in anticipation of this summer's activities.
The resurfacing work has been awarded to United Companies of Grand Junction, and will include resurfacing the road as well as shoulder work and striping. Work on the 3.7-million-dollar project should be completed by September.
