Two people are in custody after their car crashed in Rifle during a pursuit from Grand Junction. The pursuit started at the Alpha Pawn shop on North Avenue in Grand Junction.
Mesa County Sheriff's Office lieutenant Jim Fogg says at 2:15 this afternoon a deputy approached 29–year–old Richard Cook as he left the pawn shop. The deputy tried to detain Cook, who was wanted for questioning in an armed robbery of a Safeway store in the Redlands. Cook was able to get into his car, and struck the deputy as he fled the scene.
The car reportedly managed to evade attempts to stop him at highway 65 and again near Parachute by driving through the median. Cook's car eventually crashed at milepost 91 near Rifle.
Cook and a companion, 32–year–old Marcilena Greenberg were taken into custody and transported to a hospital in Grand Junction for treatment. Fogg says the deputy was also taken to the hospital for treatment. The deputies injuries are not thought to be severe.
Greenberg was wanted for felony parole escape charges.
