The Delta County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed to 11 News that a search and rescue operation is underway this morning.

Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee says they’re looking for 65 year old Sharon Popish.

Popish was last seen around 1:30 yesterday afternoon near Paionia.

Popish was reported missing at around 6 p.m. Last night when she didn’t meet up with the friend she was hiking with.

This morning there are 8 members of Delta Search and Rescue and the West Elk Search and Rescue looking for the missing woman. Teams searched until around one this morning and then resumed their operation just a short time ago. In addition to the search and rescue crews, members of the Paionia Fire Department along with a spray plane are in the area searching.

The Delta Police Department tells 11 news that Popish’s husband told them she was an “experienced hiker.”
