Low Rental Vacancy Rate In The Grand Valley

Video will be available shortly.

Finding a place to rent quickly is a problem for many people moving into the area. The reason is the very low rental vacancy rate Mesa County is experiencing. The most recent survey showed a three percent vacancy rate.

According to the Grand Junction Housing Authority, there has been a tightening in the market. Many of their clients are having a difficult time finding affordable units to rent.

One of the main reasons for the short supply is the nearby oil fields. The influx of oil workers coming into the area has filled vacancies and caused rents to skyrocket. The future for rentals does not look too bright, unless funding is increased.

The Grand Junction Housing Authority is working with other housing programs in Colorado to try and get funding to construct more affordable rental units.
