Summer Project Underway At MSC

Students and the community can expect to see major changes to the Mesa State College campus over the summer. Crews are working to complete the new residence hall at Mesa State College. But that's not all that's going on. Where the old Mesa Drug Store once stood will soon be a parking lot. What was College Place will be transformed into a traditional campus quad complete with a new academic building. And on the east side of the student center a parking garage will soon rise. And hopefully one day on the corner of Orchard Avenue and 12th street a soccer stadium a top a parking facility will become a reality. Mesa's new residence hall will be open this fall and college officials say the new space will help alleviate the issue of freshmen and sophomores having to live off–campus due to a lack of on–campus housing. So with that taken care of officials are working to alleviate another problem- parking. Senator Ron Teck is working for the college to acquire property on Houston to make room for more parking lots. In January or February the college plans break ground on a $1.5 Million parking garage, and a new academic building. But right now they're focusing on sprucing up what they already have. Foster says they'll be re–carpeting Houston Hall and continuing to dress it and other buildings up. Whether it's giving an older dorm a fresh coat of paint or building a new residence hall from the ground up. Mesa State College President Tim Foster says one thing remains the same, the college is here to grow and serve the people of western Colorado. Mesa State College hired term–limited Senator Ron Teck as its Temporary Finance Manager of special projects. Teck says once he's off the senate payroll he would like to hired full–time with the college.
