Nearly a year after Hurricane Katrina decimated the Gulf Coast, evacuees from the effected areas who relocated to the Western Slope are picking up the pieces and carrying on.
Lutheran Family Services hosted its first ever evacuees meet and greet in Grand Junction Sunday afternoon, with a handful of Katrina victims in attendance.
Nearly 10–thousand Gulf Coast residents were relocated to Colorado following the storm and the hurricane evacuee support and recovery project has worked to provide advocacy services to families who are striving to rebuild their lives.
Lutheran Family Services are also looking to put on meet and greets in both Glenwood and Steamboat Springs in the near future.
