According to the Grand Junction Police Department, the girl's mother called 911 on Friday morning around 7 a.m. after she came home from work and found her daughter having a seizure. The girl was transported to St. Mary's Hospital, but she died on Saturday.
Authorities say because the girl's injuries happened so quickly and were severe, the hospital asked the Grand Junction Police Department to investigate. The Mesa County Coroner ruled that the girl's death was homicide.
The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating all angles, and they are trying to understand the family dynamics involved. The girl was living with her mother, and two other siblings- an 8 month old and a five year old. Both of the children have been taken into custody by The Department of Human Services.
