The deadline to register to vote is fast approaching and with almost one month until election day, people at the Mesa County Clerk and Recorder's Office are working overtime to get everything ready.

The Clerk and Recorder's Office has boxes stacked high and workers are putting in extra hours to mail ballots to people who asked to vote by mail.

Clerk and Recorder Janice Rich says this may be a record year.

"We're seeing a whole lot more activity this presidential year than we did in 2004," Rich told 11 News on Friday.

And with almost one month left, it's crunch time.

"The hours get very long, I see the election staff pull 16, 17 hour days."

But even though she's seen a huge response, Rich says a lot of people wait until the last minute and don't know the deadline.

Monday October 6th is the last day you can register, and if you haven't, you're running out of time. The good news is, it's easy.

If you haven't registered you have three options tp pick up a form:

1) Mesa County Elections Office, Old County Courthouse,
244 Rood Avenue
2) Any Clerk & Recorder's Motor Vehicle Office
3) Print one off of the Mesa County Elections Website

Once you fill it out you can drop it off at the elections office or mail it in-- if you're mailing it must be post marked by Monday, October 6th.

And while workers at the Clerk and Recorder's Office process the registration forms and get ready to start getting ballots in the mail, they're thinking about the long month ahead.

Again the deadline to register to vote is Monday. The deadline to ask for a mail-in ballot is October 28th.
