Making improvements to open space designated for future parks is a focus for the Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department. Today the advisory board gathers for its monthly meeting to discuss a recent tour of several facilities including Beehive and Burkey Parks. Both are slated to receive minimal improvements, but with a lack of funding, Parks and Rec officials say not much more can happen until City Council approves funding for future projects. The park located near the Fall Valley and Beehive subdivisions off 25 1/2 Road needs a name and the advisory board is accepting ideas from the public. The submission deadline is Friday at 5 p–m. So far the Parks and Rec Department has received 31 suggestions. A decision on the new name for the park could be announced at the advisory board's August meeting.
