DENVER (AP) _ A child is dead and a man wounded after a suspect
shot them and held off police for more than two hours Sunday
morning in an East-Denver neighborhood.
Denver Police Detective Sharon Hahn says the standoff started at
about 10 a.m. when officers responded to reports of gunshots.
A wounded man and his child were taken to the hospital. Hahn
says the child was pronounced dead at the hospital. The man's
wounds aren't believed to be life-threatening.
The suspect surrendered without incident around 12:30 p.m. after
talking with police negotiators.
Hahn says police believe the suspect lives in the basement of
the home where the shootings happened. Police don't know what his
relationship is to the victims.
No names have been released. officers are talking to witnesses.
