Candle-Light Vigil Held To Memorialize Young Girl Who Died

Dozens came out in Grand Junction Friday night to help bring awareness to the issue of child abuse, and to remember the recent death of a young girl.

Because of the reported child abuse the girl suffered, local community members gathered for a candle light vigil. Strong families and Safe Kids is the non–profit agency who sponsored the event. They passed out blue ribbons for the attendees to wear as a way to raise awareness about child abuse and its prevention. Several members from the community attended the event. District Attorney, Tammey Eret, who is working on the case of the girl who died, spoke at the vigil. Mesa County Commissioner Janet Rowland also spoke at the vigil to remember the young girl who died.

There are still no arrests in the case of the three year old, but Friday night's candlelight vigil was a good reminder to the community that child abuse does and continues to exist.

The strong families strong kids is responsible for the blue ribbon campaign that is held every April.
