Relay For Life Wraps Up Saturday Morning

The 8th Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Grand Junction comes to a close Saturday morning at Stocker Stadium.

About 15-hundred Grand Valley residents put their walking shoes on to show their support for the fight against cancer. Friday night, the relay kicked off with lots of energy. And 16 hours later, the relay is still going strong. Young and old alike coming together to fight cancer.

Aside from all the walking, teams are recognized for their creative efforts with awards including best decorated tent site and a spirit award.

It's estimated the relayers took more than five million steps. Bringing us that much closer to finding a cure for cancer.

There are several more Relay for Life events scheduled for the Western Slope this summer including the first ever relay event to be held in Fruita on August 11th.
