Car Accident Sparks Montrose County Wildfire

A car accident sparks a rapidly spreading wildfire west of Montrose, as fire crews from Grand Junction and Moab, UT respond. The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon near Bedrock, located about 10 miles northwest of Paradox.

More than 250 acres have already been scorched with the flames being fueled by ponderosa pines, grass and brush. Relative humidity around 10 percent and gusty winds around 20 mph are also propelling the fire. Seven fire engines, 12 smoke jumpers from Grand Junction and a single engine air tanker also from Grand Junction are fighting the fire. A type-two incident command team from Moab, UT will also be set up at the scene.
