What would a 4th of July be like with out lighting off a few firecrackers?
This year, you may find out because there is a ban on setting off fireworks in Mesa County.
It is not illegal to own legal fireworks, but it is illegal to discharge the fireworks during the ban. The firework stands were given permission to set up shop before the ban went into effect, but now the city is speaking with the fire department so that people can enjoy their 4th of July celebrations.
The city is looking at weather conditions and discussing the pros and cons of restricting the ban. Fire spokesperson Mike Page says he doesn't see the ban lifting unless the weather changes. But, you may still want to stock up those sparklers. This is typically the only time of year the fireworks are for sale. The City of Grand Junction and the Grand Junction Fire Department are still negotiating whether to restrict the ban. The answer should be in by next week.
