On the Lookout for Firework Offenders

Video will be available shortly.

Citations have already been handed out by Mesa County Sheriff's Deputies for the use of fireworks. Lucas Howard, 26, was issued a summons for violating the Mesa County fire ban after a deputy observed him setting off fireworks in his driveway. Benjamin Kuhns received a citation and explosive violations after a deputy heard loud explosions near 3247 Downy Court in Clifton. It was determined that Kuhns was using legal fireworks to make illegal explosive fireworks.

The maximum penalty for someone breaking the fire ban is a fine of up to $100,000 dollars and up to 12 months in jail. The sheriff's department says it will have a team out patrolling over the next few days looking for fire ban violators.
