Most people wouldn't be caught dead dangling hundreds of feet above the ground, but others paid money to do just that today at Independence Monument.
Breaking a little from the annual tradition of a small group, members of the Mesa County Search and Rescue team's Technical Rescue Squad lead and in some cases lifted more than 30 citizens up the spire. It took about two hours longer than planned to get the group to the top, but after more than four hours everyone made it.
Today's climb is a first–of–its' kind fundraiser for the Mesa County Technical Rescue Team. Funds brought in from the suggested one–hundred–dollar donation will be used to purchase radios and climbing equipment for the all–volunteer squad.
