Homeowners Get Nightmarish Wakeup Call

Two homeowners may have thought it was an earthquake that was knocking them from their sleep just after two this morning, but it was actually a car smashing into their house.

Kevin Pickering was driving at speeds up to 60 miles an hour when he lost contol of his car, hopped a curb and slammed into the home on the corner of Rood Avenue and 12th Street. The impact knocked the home from its' foundation, causing the house to lean, windows to shatter and the front door to be jammed closed.

The American Red Cross ended up providing shelter for the two people living in the home. Pickering was taken to the hospital for treatment. He could be charged with drunk driving pending the result of a blood alcohol test.
