It's the first partnership of its kind in the Grand Junction area. The Bureau of Land Management and Gateway Canyons Resort are teaming up to preserve the Palisade Wilderness Study Area. The 26–thousand acre Palisade WSA is made up of mostly canyon terrain located 50 miles southwest of Grand Junction near the town of Gateway. The resort announced this week it will spend two years acting as public land stewards of the area. As a participant in the Adopt–A– WSA program, the Gateway Canyons Resort is required to submit written reports to the BLM on patrol or project work that is done in the area. The BLM employees will serve as teachers and trainers for the resort's volunteers when it comes to the bureau's policies, projects, and patrol activities.
