Boulder Crushes Car, Closes Highway

Golden, Colo. (AP)- U.S. six in Clear Creek Canyon in Jefferson
County is back open today — after a boulder the size of a small
car slid onto an unoccupied vehicle and closed the road for about
seven hours. Colorado Department of Transportation spokesman Paul Peterson says the road closed about 10–30 a–m. Crews had to blow the rock apart, then move the smaller pieces off the road. No one was injured. The vehicle belongs to a rock climber who had parked it on the side of the road. Peterson says the cause of the slide hasn't officially been determined, but he suspects the recent rains, which would have
loosened rocks and soil in the canyon.
