It's a skill every parent should know - how to install a child safety seat properly. However officials say 90 percent of child restraints are misused. That is why local advocate groups got together to host a media car seat installation challenge. 11 News Reporter Natalie Pallone competed in the event. She had 10 minutes to read the car seat's instructions and properly install it. Natalie did win today's' competition.
But the real winners of course are the parents who take the time to make sure their kids are riding safe. According to officials child restraints are 71 percent effective in reducing deaths in infants and 54 percent effective in ages one through four.
Parents can learn first–hand if they've properly installed their child's safety seat by visiting a Mesa County Child Safety Seat Fitting and Education Station.
