A major contractor's association says the construction boom in Mesa County could go bust if undocumented aliens are denied jobs...

Association of Building Contractors chairman Rod Johnson says new laws requiring employers to verify workers have legal status are unrealistic. He says employers have neither the training nor expertise to spot fake documents, and the federal government needs to provide a fool–proof identification system.

Johnson says the construction trades program at Western Colorado Community College and apprenticeship programs can help ease the shortage, but he says it could still take years for the valley to recover from the loss of workers.
