Residents in the Redlands can rest easier now that a prowling mountain lion has been captured.
One of the solitary predators has been prowling near the Walker Wildlife area along the Colorado River for some time, and although there have been numerous sightings the big cat had not been a concern until it began hanging out on lawns and showing little fear of people.
Wildlife Manager Dean Riggs says there are mountain lions in nearly every city in Colorado, but they are rarely seen and cause few problems.
The animal was a healthy male. It was captured by a wildlife control officer using tracking dogs. The cat was taken to a remote area of the county and released unharmed.
