A stretch of road thousands use each day will soon be closed, forcing more and more motorists onto the I–70 Business Loop. Phase II of the Riverside Parkway Project is slated to begin July 24th, and in order to get the project rolling a part of River Road will be closed for 14 months.
River Road will be closed Northwest of the Glacier Ice Arena. The road will remain open from the Broadway Bridge to the new Glacier Ice Arena entrance. The west end of the closure will start at the Colorado Riverfront Trail parking lot which will remain open. When complete officials say the parkway which will stretch nine miles from 24 Road to 29 Road will provide improved access through downtown, and eliminate cut–through traffic from the Riverside Neighborhood. Total completion of the $3.5 Million project is anticipated in the fall of 2008.
