Semi Rollover Accident Causes Traffic Delays

One west–bound lane of Interstate 70 was closed for hours Wednesday evening after a semi-truck rollover. The accident happened at 5:15 p.m. after an eastbound semi–truck entered the Debeque Canyon. The truck began sliding out of control and vaulted over the concrete guardrail at Milepost 44. Both the truck and trailer ended up in the westbound lane upside down. The truck was carrying 44,000 pounds of meat for Subway stores in Greeley. It's miraculous that the driver was able to escape unharmed.

Traffic was backed up for more than two hours and at least four miles in both directions. It took a crane and wrecker to remove the truck and slide the trailer enough to clear one west–bound lane. Driver Eric Belmoudes says he was just going too fast for the curve, which is rated at 50 miles per hour.
