Alert clerks at a local grocery store help nab a suspected counterfeiter trying to buy money orders.
Michael Steven Johnson was arrested yesterday for trying to pass off several bills he made. He was at the Safeway Market at 29 Road and Patterson for the second time that day when a clerk recognized Johnson and checked the bills he was using to pay for the money order.
At the jail Johnson called a companion to pick up some of his property from a local hotel room. Officers soon arrested Cheryl Rae Foreman of Clifton as she was leaving Johnson's hotel room. She had some of his items with her, along with more counterfeit bills.
More than one–thousand dollars in fake bills have been recovered, but police suspect there could be many more circulating in the local economy.
