The case against a former Palisade football player that at one point appeared to be resolved, started over Thursday as the trial got underway.
Jason Popick initially had a plea agreement reached in the case, but that was rejected by Judge Bryan Flynn. Popick took back his guilty plea and is now pleading not guilty. He faces one to three years in prison for trespass of an auto and third degree assault.
He is accused of punching his ex–girlfriend's new boyfriend, and allegedly throwing his ex–girlfriend to the floor after getting in a verbal fight at her house.
Thursday, a jury was selected and opening statements were given. The jury also got to hear testimony from two witness's. One of those witness's, Joseph Nunez, is the man who Popick allegedly assaulted.
