Deputies responded Saturday to The Vineyard subdivision for a report of a cat that had been found dismembered and gutted. After authorities interviewed residents in neighborhood, they discovered that this is the fourth or fifth dead cat that has been found in the area over a several month period.
One resident says at least one of the cats was a pet, but it is not known where the other cats came from.
If a person is found responsible for knowingly mutilating the cats they may face aggravated animal cruelty charges, a class six felony, and punishable by up to a year and a half in jail.
