Congressman Announces Grant For Fruita Intersections

Congressman John Salazar says he tried his best to get full funding, but the half–million dollars he has requested will go a long way to improving intersections on Fruita's Highway 340.

Salazar gets a briefing on the project today from Fruita city officials and Colorado Department of Transportation regional director Ed Fink. The plan will improve ramps and add traffic signals to the area around Interstate 70. The interchange dates to the 1960's, and the improvements will bring the area up to current safety standards. Salazar says it's hard to get scarce funding for rural area transportation improvements as competition from more-populous states in fierce.

Funds for the project come from a multi–agency appropriations bill that is awaiting senate approval.
