Language Approved For Whitewater District

The Mesa County Board of Commissioners today approved language for two measures that will appear on the Novembers ballots. One measure would create a Public Improvement District in Whitewater that if approved would create a sewer district for the unincorporated town.

County Administrator Jon Peacock says the region has a shallow water table and poor soils that make sewers a necessity for residents. He adds that the District bond will require no additional taxes from Mesa County residents, and would be paid for by a grant from the state Department of Local Affairs as well as tap and monthly fees. Peacock says tap fees for existing homes are estimated at 25-hundred dollars and a monthly fee of 15 dollars per month.

A second measure would ask voters for a TABOR override for the project.

Language for both measures is complete and does not have to be approved by the Secretary Of State.
