The announcement came this Monday morning on the steps of the state capitol that Mesa County Commissioner Janet Rowland could be Colorado's next Lieutenant Governor. The two flew into Grand Junction's Walkerfield Airport at about 5:00p.m. to share the news with Grand Valley residents.

More than a hundred supporters greeted Beauprez and Rowland. The current Lt. Gov. Jane Norton joined them and voiced her support for the duo. Representative Josh Penry also spoke out saying Rowland is a more than qualified for the job.

Rowland is known on the Western Slope her involvement with the Mesa County Meth Task Force, co–founding the non–profit organization Strong Families, Safe Kids, and her ten years of child advocacy work at the Department of Human Services. The once stay-at-home mom says she ready to take on all the challenges that go along with being Lt. Gov. Rowland says she will continue to fulfill her duties as a County Commissioner while on the campaigning for Lieutenant Governor. She says phone, fax and e-mail will be a big help while on the campaign trail.

County Commissioner Tillie Bishop and Craig Meis say they are pleased with Beauprez's decision and say Rowland is the best candidate for the job.

Beauprez and Rowland will face Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Bill Ritter and his running mate Barbara O'Brien in the November election.
