School Zones Strictly Enforced

Video will be available shortly.

As kids head back to school, police are too. They want to remind drivers that if you ignore the yellow school zone lights, there's a good chance you'll be seeing their lights in your rear-view mirror.

Throughout the day Monday the Grand Junction Police Department set up saturation patrols around the city in an effort to reduce speeding in school zones. Before school, during lunch and after school the speed limit is reduced to 20 miles per hour. On the first day of school police wrote 25 tickets and gave 9 verbal warnings. Sergeant Douglas Norcross says typically most Grand
Valley residents don't speed through the zones.

In Grand Junction there has never been a serious accident involving a student and a motor vehicle in a school zone.
