A long standing Grand Junction business suffered a fire early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters arrived at Johnsons House of Flowers, located at 1350 North Ave, around 5:45 Tuesday morning. Flames were shooting through the roof of the building and the fire was extinguished within an hour.

Officials say that while they don’t know what caused the fire, it started on the west side of the building and spread.

Johnsons House of Flowers has been a family business through four generations, opening in 1937. The owner says that the business will be open starting Wednesday. On Tuesday, despite the fire, the business still continued to make deliveries.

Damage to the building is estimated at $100,000.
