The Mesa County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man for trying to hire an undercover officer to kill two people.

66–year–old Robert Hakel was already serving a sentence in the Mesa County Jail when he told another inmate he wanted to have a relative of his killed along with one other person.

According to his arrest affidavit, Hackel wanted to "get revenge" on those two people for “ratting him out” and putting him in jail. He then had various meetings with who he thought was a hit man, but who was in reality an undercover officer. He offered to pay for the killings with a Jeep and a 1980's Pontiac.

Hakel is facing criminal solicitation to commit first degree murder.
