The Denver based contractor was hired to help build the 29 Road Bridge, which opened last month. Now Hamon Contractors Incorporated is facing allegations of illegally dumping materials at a private site north of the project. An investigation has been launched to find out if there is any merit to these claims.

According to authorities with the county, there are allegations that Hamon Contractors buried construction materials on private property north of the bridge.

The site was not part of the 29 Road Project Area. It was rented by the company and was used as a staging location while construction was taking place on the bridge. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will be working to determine if any materials were in fact buried at the property.

Public Relations Director Jessica Peterson said the county learned about the allegations on Wednesday. They are taking the situation seriously.

Peterson also said if Hamon workers did improperly dispose of the materials, they fully expect the site to be cleaned up according to state requirements. The Mesa County Public Works Department will monitor the investigation, and will verify any cleanup that may be required. Some officials with the county say that the company is being cooperative.
