We now know the identity of a pedestrian killed in an accident earlier this week and troopers say the man responsible for killing him will face charges.

Steve Romero, 24, of Grand Junction is facing charges of careless driving causing death.

Colorado State Patrol says Romero was driving his pickup south on Sunrise Drive when he hit 50-year-old Benjamin Borroel of Grand Junction on the side of the road.

Troopers say Borroel was standing outside an SUV that was parked on the side of the road talking to the people inside when the pick–up hit and killed him. He was thrown 39 feet.

Borroel's 80–year–old mother, who watched the accident from her front porch, was taken to the hospital for chest pains.

Alcohol, drugs and speed are not believed to be contributing factors.
