Doug Miller, manager of Grand Junction's Sportsman's Warehouse says he thought other businesses would have received similar recognition, but the popular outdoor outfitter is the first business in the country to receive Duck Unlimited's "Platinum Teal" Award.

The store has been a partner of the conservation organization since 1997, and has donated $650,000 to Ducks Unlimited in that time.

Miller says the unexpected recognition is nice, but it's not the reason the store has come through. He says the company strongly supports habitat conservation, saying it's good for the environment, for sportsmen, and for business.

Ducks Unlimited is the nation's largest wetlands and waterfowl conservation group. Sportsman's Warehouse also supports several other conservation organizations.
