Local Humane Society Get Check From Kids

A summer reading program for kids offers big dividends for the pets of Mesa County.

Roice–Hurst Humane Society receives a check for three– thousand dollars from the Mesa County libraries today, thanks to the efforts of more than 12–hundred kids who chose to read 50 books or spend ten hours reading for the "Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales" reading game.

Contributions go to a new spay and neuter program that will be free to the pets of children who are currently registered at a Mesa County School.

The reading program proved so successful this year for both literacy and animals that Mesa County libraries hope to have a similar program next year.
