Wildfire Threatens Homes In Garfield County

Video will be available shortly.

Multiple agencies responded to scene of a massive wild fire burning western Garfield County. The Spruce Creek Fire is burning anywhere from 1500 to 1800 acres in an area between Rulison and Rifle. It was first reported at 4 p.m. with 3 acres and grew quickly. Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario says about 40 homeowners have been evacuated to Rifle City Hall. No houses have been lost to fire, but Vallario says four outbuildings have burned. None of the evacuees were hurt during the evacuation, however, one firefighter has suffered minor injuries. Those who are looking for help boarding horses can take their animals to the Garfield County Fairgrounds. There is no word yet what caused the fire, but crews will continue their effort overnight.
