Denver (AP) Colorado’s newly appointed U.S. Senator, Michael Bennet, has been assigned to the senate committee on agriculture, nutrition and forestry.

The former Denver public schools superintendent also will serve on the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; the Committee On Homeland Security and Government affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging.

Bennet had asked to serve on the agriculture committee, which also has jurisdiction over forestry and logging matters and policies related to nutrition and health.

Gov. Bill Ritter appointed Bennet to replace fellow democrat Ken Salazar, who became Interior Secretary. Bennet was sworn in last week.
