The Delta Police Department is investigating the possible homicide of an elderly woman assaulted last month. Delta Police Chief Richard Bacher says the investigation will be done "by the book," and so far few details are being released.
At a press conference this afternoon Bacher said police officers responded on August 13th to the Delta County Memorial Hospital to investigate an assault report on an 81–year–old woman. At that time Delta resident Mark Hollie Grover was arrested for the assault and remains a person of interest in the case.
On September 5th the woman died at an undisclosed location from injuries sustained during the assault. The Delta County Coroner and a Forensic Pathologist determined there was enough evidence to declare the death suspicious and a possible homicide.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation arrived in Delta this afternoon to assist in the investigation, which a Delta Police Commander says is the first in the farming community in at least four years. Bacher says it is still possible that other factors could have played into the woman's death, but at this time Grover will remain in custody at the Delta County jail.
