Whittier, Calif (AP) The mother of octuplets says she had six embryos implanted in a fertility procedure and was well aware that multiple births could result.
Nadya Suleman says it was a gamble she also took for each of her six previous deliveries. She told NBC’s “Today” she had six embryos implanted for each in vitro procedure. The number far exceeds fertility industry guidelines for a woman her age.
Experts say there’s a small chance embryos can divide in the womb, which apparently led to the octuplets.
The 33-year-old southern California woman, who gave birth to the octuplets last week, has been criticized because she is single, unemployed and already had six children.
Says Suleman: “I love my children.”
