More than a month after a Grand Junction man was shot outside his home, police now have a suspect in custody.

The suspect who allegedly shot 63-year-old Carl Pellam was arrested Sunday and faces numerous charges. Pellam was shot outside his Grand Junction home in late August, following a confrontation with the alleged suspect, 28-year-old Michael Burton.

According to the arrest affidavit, during the confrontation, the suspect had pointed his weapon directly at Pellam's chest and when the victim tried to slap the gun away, it fired, hitting Pellam in the shoulder.

Burton had been visiting his pseudo step mother who lives near Pellam's house and admitted to shooting the victim.

Burton is facing charges of suspicion of first-degree murder, as well as second-degree assault and crimes against an at risk adult.
