A Palisade winery has been drawing a lot of attention lately. The Grand River winery has long been known as the gateway to Palisade, but some things could soon be changing.
The owners of the vineyard have decided to auction off the property, and what will take its place is still unknown. Most Palisade residents and the owners of the vineyard say they hope the property is sold to someone who will keep it as is, instead of turning the popular wine land into commercial or residential buildings.
Jim Voorheel, Palisade resident, says, "I hope someone in Napa Valley wants to retire and would like to move to Colorado, and they buy it up and maintain the operation as it is, that's my ideal situation."
"I'd like to see it stay as a turn key operation to some new owners who want to take it to the next level and come in where we left off," explains Naomi Smith, Grand River owner.
The owners say there is a lot of potential to turn some of the land into a hotel or shops that will highlight the winery and vineyard. The auction will take place on October 24th at 11:00 a.m.
